Danny Van Poppel vince davanti a Lampaert e Naesen, quinto Pasqualon

Pronti via e se ne vanno in 6 – Dries De Bondt, Stijn Steels (Vérandas Willems-Crelan), Timothy Dupont (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Dimitri Peyskens (WB Aqua Protect Veranclassic), Ide Schelling (SEG) e Angélo Tulik (Direct Énergie) – senza mai, però, prendere veramente il largo e finendo per essere riassorbiti dopo pochi chilometri di corsa.
Ecco allora un secondo tentativo da lontano – composto da Tom Devriendt (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Quentin Jaurégui (Ag2r La Mondiale), Clément Orceau (Direct Énergie), Dimitri Peyskens (WB Aqua Protect Veranclassic), Cedric Raymackers e Lennert Teugels (Cibel-Cebon) – ma anche questo, dopo aver raggiunto un vantaggio massimo di 3 minuti, subirà la stessa sorte del precedente venendo riassorbito a 60 km dal traguardo. Il forte vento di giornata fraziona il gruppo che procede a velocità sostenuta, tanto che entrati nel circuito finale la parte più avanzata è composta da una trentina di corridori.
Nel corso dell’ultimo giro ci prova ZdenÄ›k Å tybar (Quick-Step Floors), riuscendo a prendere subito un buon margine sugli altri, mentre alle sue spalle prova a ricucire la coppia formata da Stijn Vandenbergh (Ag2R La Mondiale) e Yves Lampaert, in copertura del compagno in testa. I diretti inseguitori, ridotti ormai a poche unità, riescono grazie agli uomini rimasti della LottoNL-Jumbo a raggiungere i fuggitivi solo dopo la “flamme rouge”. Qui senza attendere gli ultimi metri Danny Van Poppel (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) piazza l’attacco decisivo sul pavé, sfruttando anche il buco formato dai compagni di squadra alle sue spalle, e transita in solitaria sul traguardo, a braccia alzate. Per i piazzamenti di rincalzo 3 secondi più tardi si aggiudicano seconda e terza posizione il campione belga Yves Lampaert e il portacolori della AG2R Oliver Naesen, con il nostro Andrea Pasqualon (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) ottimo quinto.
Per il 25enne olandese è il terzo successo stagionale e il quindicesimo in carriera.
