GIRO DEL BELGIO, GLI ABBUONI “D’ORO” FAVORISCONO KEUKELEIRE
La classifica finale, che si è decisa nel corso dell’ultima tappa, va al belga Jens Keukeleire, il quale ha superato il francese Rémi Cavagna grazie agli abbuoni dei traguardi volanti. Sull’ultimo gradino del podio sale il tedesco Tony Martin, che supera di un secondo l’altro belga Philippe Gilbert.
È stato un Giro del Belgio che si è deciso solo all’ultimo, ma è giusto partire dalla prima tappa per capire la genesi di quest’interessante corsa.
Al termine della prima frazione, disputata tra Lochristi a Knokke-Heist, l’arrivo in volata è andato al francese Bryan Coquard (Direct Énergie), che ha vinto davanti al belga Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Soudal) e all’inglese Daniel McLay (Fortuneo).
La seconda frazione, da Knokke-Heist a Moorslede, è stata teatro di una volata a ranghi ristretti vinta dal ventiduenne olandese Mathieu Van der Poel (Beobank) sui belgi Philippe Gilbert (Quick-Step Floors) e Wout Van Aert (Vérandas Willems-Crelan).
La terza tappa, una cronometro di 13 chilometri, è andata all’austriaco Matthias Brändle (Trek – Segafredo), che ha preceduto di 14″ il più blasonato Tony Martin (Katusha) e dello stesso distacchi sia citato Van Aert, sia il francese Sylvain Chavanel (Direct Énergie).
La quarta frazione, costituita da un circuito disegnato attorno ad Ans ricalcando il finale della Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi, è stata vinta dall’olandese Maurits Lammertink (Katusha) in uno sprint a due sul portoghese Ruben Guerreiro (Trek – Segafredo). Questa coppia ha anticipato di 5″ un altro duo, formato dal belga Jens Keukeleire (ORICA-Scott) e dal francese Rémi Cavagna (Quick-Step Floors), mentre il resto dei favoriti è giunto a 31″ dal vincitore. Alla vigilia dell’ultima tappa, appartentemente ininfluente in quanto pianeggiante, la classifica generale vedeva in testa Cavagna con un solo secondo su Keukeleire.
La conclusiva Tienen – Tongeren si è così rivelata determinante e questo grazie alla presenza del “chilometro d’oro, tratto di mille metri nei quali si dovevano affrontate tre traguardi volanti ravvicinati, posti a 500 metri l’uno dall’altro e forniti di abbuoni conteggiati nella classifica generale. Mentre la frazione è stata vinta in volata da Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Soudal) davanti a Coen Vermeltfoort (Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij) e Boy Van Poppel (Trek – Segafredo), la sfida più importante si è risolta la contesa a favore del corridore belga che ha distanziato 6″ l’ex capoclassifica Cavagna e di 11″ Martin, che lascia giù dal podio per un solo secondo Gilbert.
