NEL DUELLO CAVENDISH-GREIPEL LA VITTORIA VA A VIVIANI

Inizio con il botto per i colori italiani nella Terra di Albione. Nonostante l’esiguo numero di rappresentanti del bel paese al Tour of Britain è stato il velocista veronese della Sky ad avere la meglio sui due più quotati “colleghi”, impegnati a fronteggiarsi l’un l’altro e infilati sulla linea d’arrivo.

È iniziato oggi il Tour of Britain e per l’Italia non poteva cominciare nel migliore dei modi. In una tipica tappa da velocisti che si concludeva a Wrexham, in Galles, la vittoria è andata a Elia Viviani (Team Sky) davanti a Mark Cavendish e Andrè Greipel, con l’inglese che aveva lanciato una volata in testa con l’intenzione di controllare l’eventuale rimonta del tedesco. Tra i due si è, però, infilato quasi inosservato il veronese che li ha superati con un colpo di reni da manuale sul traguardo.
Nonostante la tappa presentasse le caratteristiche tipiche per farla classificare “per velocisti”, le squadre delle ruote veloci, Etixx-Quickstep su tutte, hanno dovuto faticare non poco per tenere sotto controllo la fuga di giornata. I fuggitivi – Conor Dunne, Kristian House, Tom Stewart e Pete Williams – sono stati infatti raggiunti soltanto quando mancavano un paio di chilometri al termine.
La vittoria del portacolori Sky gli ha permesso di indossare la maglia di leader della corsa a tappe inglese.
