GP DI VALLONIA 2014, VINCE VAN AVERMAET

Il belga della BMC riesce a imporsi sul traguardo di Namur anticipando al termine di un’avvincente volata un ritrovato Tony Gallopin e Jan Bakelants.

Già pochi metri dopo il chilometro zero riesce ad uscire la fuga di giornata, composta da François Bidard (Ag2r La Mondiale), Dominique Martin (FDJ.fr), Clement Koretzky (Bretagne – Séché), Thomas Degand (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), Loic Chetout (Cofidis) e Serge Dewortelaer (Veranclassic Doltcini). Il gruppo lascia fare, come di consueto, fino a circa 50 km dall’arrivo quando il ritmo si alza vertiginosamente riportando il plotone a ranghi compatti.
Nel finale il percorso dell’edizione 2014 di questa competizione belga, assolutamente non piatto e banale favorisce, ai -20 il tentativo di Frank Schleck, sulla penultima asperità di giornata, che si tira dietro a ruota anche Jelle Vanendert (Lotto Belisol), Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) e Jan Bakelants (Omega Pharma – QuickStep). Il quartetto che si forma al comando, però, per usare un eufemismo, non va d’amore e d’accordo e così il gruppo tirato disperatamente dagli uomini Tinkoff torna ad assaporare il raggiungimento dei battistrada prima della bandiera a scacchi.
E’ qui che Greg Van Avermaet, con grande acume tattico, percepisce il pericolo e con altrettanta freschezza fisica si lascia alle spalle tutti gli avversari e termina la sua lunghissima progressione a braccia alzate. Alle sue spalle Tony Gallopin non riesce a completare la rimonta del plotone tenendosi dietro l’altro fuggitivo, Bakelants che chiude sul gradino più basso del podio.
Per il 29enne belga della BMC è un altro importante tassello da aggiungere ad un palmares di tutto rispetto.
